We offer a unique outdoor learning experience where children can have adventures every day and experience all that nature can teach them, in a happy, secure environment.
We play in mud. We jump in puddles. We plant seeds and eat home grown food. We climb trees. We have lots of fun. We make memories. At Go Outdoors we embrace a range of theories and methods, including Montessori and Reggio, and a mixture of two approaches, The Curiosity Approach and Forest Schooling.
We combine them all together into our own “Go Outdoors’ Educational approach”, which fits into our community and culture.
Our building provides light and airy home from home environment, using calm neutral colour schemes and natural resources. We follow the curiosity approach and do not have many plastic toys in our setting as we prefer to offer real life objects to explore and natural materials to discover.
The Curiosity Approach
Our nursery is a homely environment with a feeling of cosiness and warmth for all who enter it.
We offer natural resources and textures opening up a range of possibilities for children to learn and explore using their senses.
We use open ended questions with children, which stretches their imagination and curiosity, letting us into their minds.
We encourage children to learn through their senses.
We encourage curiosity and exploration. And when we explore – we discover!
We use the real thing! Bright, shiny, and natural authentic resources rescued from car boots and charity shops. Resources that offer value to play, bringing a mixture of textures and stimulus that no plastic toys can offer.
We choose calm, neutral colours for our play spaces so that the learning can shine through. The earthly tones give off a sense of calmness as colour can impact an individual’s mood, well-being, learning and behaviour.
Our main focus is on outdoor learning and we maintain many of the forest school principles.
We are fully accredited by the Forest School Association, the first and the only accredited Forest School in Burnley.
Our Forest School is led by a trained and qualified team who have undertaken Level 3 Forest School Qualifications, outdoor paediatric first aid and have acquired bush craft and campfire cooking skills and love the outdoors as much as our children do.
Please see our award certificate here. We believe that the opportunities presented by experiencing Forest School offers an additional element to Outdoor Learning. Our sessions not only teach our children complex concepts about our natural world but also provide multiple learning and development opportunities.
